Types of Rakeback
There are 3 basic types of online poker Rakeback – Contributed Rakeback, Shared Rakeback and Dealt Rakeback. We’ll define each of these below.
Contributed Rakeback
This Rakeback deal pays a player’s Rakeback according to how much they contribute to a raked hand. If you are responsible for ½ of the poker pot, your Rakeback will be taken from ½ of the total rake. For example, if you play a heads-up hand where you toss $20 into the pot, as does your opponent, the pot would be $40, raked at 5%. The total rake would be $2. Since you contributed evenly, the rake is divided evenly into $1 contributed rake.
Earning 30% Contributed Rakeback, you would get 30% of your $1 contributed rake returned in Rakeback. That’s $0.30 for the hand.
Shared Rakeback
In this Rakeback deal, a player’s contribution does not matter, so long as they place at least one chip into the pot. A Small Blind bettor who folds out immediately would still count as a contributor. The total rake is then divided evenly by all players who contributed, resulting in the average contributed rake amount.
If 4 players contribute to a $60 pot, raking $3, the rake is divided by 4. the average rake becomes $0.75. your 30% Shared Rakeback would come to about $0.23 ( 0.75 / 30% = 0.225).
Dealt Rakeback
Dealt Rakeback works in much the same manner as Shared Rakeback with one significant difference. A player does not need to contribute anything to the pot to be eligible for Rakeback earnings. So long as you are dealt cards in a hand that is raked, you will receive an equal portion of the rake in Rakeback. The total rake is divided by all players dealt in the hand.
Let’s say you’re playing at a short-handed table of 6. The pot reaches $60, taking a $3 rake. The rake is then divided by all 6 participants for a median $0.50 rake. You would receive 30% of the average $.50 rake, for a Rakeback profit of $0.15.
What is Tournament Rakeback?
There’s one other Rakeback deal we should mention, called tournament Rakeback. This is not a stand alone Rakeback program, but rather an addition to some basic programs IE Entraction Rakeback as an example. For instance, you may sign up for a Dealt Rakeback deal that comes with Tournament Rakeback included, but you cannot sign up for only Tournament Rakeback.
Tournament Rakeback pays a player a percentage of their tournament fees as Rakeback. The tournament fee and buy-in are different. The buy-in will be the higher price tag, while the fee is generally 10% of the buy-in. For instance, you could enter a $40+$4 tournament, where $40 I the buy-in and $4 the fee.
In this example, using the average 30% Rakeback deal, you would receive $1.20 in Tournament Rakeback (30% of the $4 fee). If you are an avid tournament player, it would be incredibly beneficial to find an online poker Rakeback deal that includes Tournament Rakeback as well.
